Learn to knit your first pair of socks!! Knitting in-the-round in a small circumference with double pointed needles (DPNs). Learn the importance of obtaining gauge to create a pair of socks that actually fit-- learn to gauge in-the-round rather than flat. This class offers the basics for top-down sock construction. Discover how to create the heel flap, how to “turn” the heel of your sock, make gussets, toe shaping, and finally, learn the Kitchener Stitch for a seamless toe. Four classes with homework between classes. Classes distributed over approximately four weeks to allow ample time for students to work on project between classes to complete 2 socks by the end of the 4-class sessions.

Skill Level: Advanced beginner – knows how to knit and purl, cast-on and bind-off; ready to learn new stitches and knitting techniques. Familiarity reading patterns is helpful, but not necessary. Has never knit socks on DPN's or needs a refresher or has had trouble successfully making socks in the past.
Materials: Yarn: Approximately 450 yds MC and 150 yds CC of worsted weight or light worsted weight superwash yarn. (Instructor preference is Cascade 220 Superwash – 2 skeins MC, 1 skein CC – in light colors!) Needles: Appropriate needles to obtain a gauge of approx. 6 sts = 1 inch in stockinette stitch. Other: Locking Stitch Markers, Notepad. Darning Needle. Basic Sock pattern and handouts are included in the materials fee for this class. ($7.00 materials fee)
